When is a treat not a treat?
Answer: When you have it every day!
We are currently coaching about 30 clients through a seven-week nutrition challenge, and the three of us (Melly, Brunetta, and myself) have seen a few common issues. We address them with the clients individually, of course, but the lessons are good for everyone to learn.
When you find yourself thinking or saying one of these phrases: “just this once” or “I deserve this” or “life is short” or “I really need this tonight” or “I don’t want to offend her” or “it’s a special occasion,” you’re going down a less-than-ideal path.
We are all presented with opportunities to have some food or beverage that we know is not the best choice for our bodies. Your friend brings cookies from that special bakery. Your boss goes on a tirade so you want a glass of wine to end the day. Your spouse wants to grab a burger and fries on a random Tuesday night. You don’t have time to cook because you’ve been shuttling your kids to various activities.
These events happen every day!
If you give in to each event, you are making choices every day that are not the best.
Then, when you look back (as our clients do), you see that you have more “bad” days than “good” days.
That is not a recipe for long-term success.
That is a recipe for gradual weight gain.
One day you step on the scale and you think, “How did that happen?!” Or perhaps the weather turns colder and you grab your jeans and you think “Did these shrink?!”
We’re not saying never have a treat, but we are saying that treats are the exception, not the rule. Having treats every day becomes your way of eating!
At Revity3, we focus on the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the time, make the right decisions. Twenty percent of the time, enjoy.
Figuring out how to eat properly during that 80% can be daunting, given the ton of information available, particularly half-truths and exaggerations on social media.
If you want help, Revity3 is here for you.
