I am missing the point!

When it comes to my brain’s health, I’ve been totally missing the point.

I was, but now I get it.

For about two years now, I’ve been studying Spanish with an on-line tutor.

So I must be fluent by now, right?

 Nope.

 Not even close.

After all this time, I still struggle to put together a complete sentence.

I still rack my brain to remember the translations of words.

I can’t understand what Spanish speakers are saying.

I’m stumped by verb conjugations and tenses.

 It’s been frustrating as heck.

 But then it hit me:

When it comes to keeping my brain healthy, knowing how to speak a new language is not the point, the struggle is the point.

Learning (for me, anyway) is very difficult. However, learning something challenging forces my brain to work hard, thereby making it stronger.

It’s exactly like when I lift weights, my muscles get stronger.

 Cause, effect.

Why do I put myself through this? Because I want to increase my chances of having all my mental faculties when I am older.

If you do too, start “lifting weights” for your brain!
