40 years in the making!

39, actually, but what’s a year between friends?!

I recently received an invite to my 40th high school reunion. It’s a year early, but either way, it’s been a long time since we graduated.

Let’s get this out of the way first: I’m not going. I didn’t enjoy my high-school experience, and I have no desire to relive any of it.

It is, however, an opportune time for personal reflection.

THIRTY-NINE YEARS have passed since we graduated.

And it went by like that.

Looking backwards, I have to ask myself how I feel about what I’ve accomplished so far. Am I elated, merely content, or disappointed by what I’ve done so far?

I suppose it’s all three.

One thing I say is that I am grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve had around me for so long.

I’m grateful that thousands of people have put their trust in me (and my teams) to help them on their fitness journeys over the last 25+ years.

I’m grateful that I’ve had so many opportunities in my life. (I didn’t take advantage of all of them, but that’s a story for another day.)

And I’m grateful for where I am right now. A small part of which is thanks to the hard work I’ve done, but so much of it is due to the love, support, and guidance I’ve received from others.

Looking ahead, I have to ask myself what I want to feel when I look back in another 39 years. (I’ll be 95 by then for those of you wondering, and I have every expectation that I’ll make it there.)

No matter what else I feel, I know I’ll continue to feel grateful.

Are things around me (or us for that matter) perfect?

No.

But in general, everyone that is reading this email has a lot to be grateful for.

I know I do.

Take a moment today to stop and realize how lucky you are.

Be grateful.
