I won’t keep you in suspense!
Last week, we discussed my favorite longevity exercise, and I promised I’d give you my second favorite this week.
To recap, last week I talked about jumping down off of something. It requires no special equipment and takes a few seconds.
Why?
What you are essentially doing is learning to catch yourself when you stumble. Being able to do this can save you from a fall. We all understand how dangerous (and painful) that can be!
My second favorite is more time consuming, but definitely more fun:
Walking!
Walking can be so many things. Time with a friend or loved one. A walk with the dog. A challenging workout (walking hills quickly). A time alone to clear your head or to just think. And all the while, you’re moving your body, burning calories and staying active.
Physically, walking helps with bone health (as does any weight-bearing exercise), improves balance, and helps with blood sugar regulation (going for a post-meal walk).
Enjoying the air, experiencing the weather, socializing with people, seeing the seasons change are all added benefits.
The very best part?
It’s FREE!
Today is the first day of fall. Winter is not far behind, so get outside while you can!
