Slow change can be good…
But it can also be really bad.
For example, you gain a pound. No biggie.
A year goes by, you gain another.
Five years, five more pounds.
You don’t even notice.
Then one day, 30 years later, you are teetering on obese. And with the extra weight, you now have a host of health problems, perhaps high blood pressure, knee/hip/back problems, or type 2 diabetes.
It doesn’t have to be weight. You have a nagging knee injury, and instead of rehabbing it and strengthening the muscles around it, you just deal with it. “I’m getting old. It’s part of life.” A few years pass, and then more years, and then you need a knee replacement.
It doesn’t even have to be health related. What about your relationships? If you don’t nurture them, one day you wake up with very few friends, estranged children, and a spouse that you have nothing in common with.
Slow changes can be insidious. You don’t notice them until it’s too late. The change has already happened.
Slow can work for you, however, as slow and steady changes to the positive side tend to last the longest. Why? Because you did all the right things to get there. No quick fixes.
You have one more glass of water every day.
You sleep another half hour every day.
You add a little bit of protein to your diet each day.
You exercise one more time a week.
You do one more repetition for each exercise.
You get to that stretch class once a week.
You breathe for one minute each day.
You say “I love you” each day.
These are the types of things that compound. They are small but make massive changes over a year, 10 years, a lifetime.
The best part? Smaller, gradual changes are more likely to stick.
The biggest challenges?
Knowing what to do
Having someone you trust to hold you accountable
That’s why you need a coach.
Someone who calls or texts you and asks why you weren’t at the gym today.
Someone who looks at your food and isn’t afraid to say “did you need that second drink?” or “how come you didn’t hit your protein target?”
Someone who reminds you the importance of recovery and stress management.
We at Revity3 are that someone.
Come see how we can help you with positive, long-lasting change!
