A lesson from Project Runway (Part 2)…
Last week, we discussed how protein has come into the public eye (finally!).
This week, we should talk about another fantastic trend that is occurring right now:
Strength training!
I’ve been coaching for over 25 years, and never in my career have I heard so many women interested in lifting weights.
This is truly excellent! It’s so important to build muscle for a laundry list of reasons, including strengthening bones, weight management, and injury prevention. (More details on the benefits later.)
Much like our conversation about protein last week, however, the classics never go out of style.
In this case, the classic I’m referring to is cardio.
Think about this: You don’t have one cutting knife.
You have a bread knife, a paring knife, a steak knife, a Chef’s knife, and a utility knife (and probably more than one of each) in your kitchen.
The right tool for the right job.
Same with exercise.
While strength training is excellent, cardio training is an integral part of a complete exercise routine. It is best known for strengthening your heart and lungs, but it also helps to improve insulin sensitivity, gives you more energy, aids in sleep, and boosts your mood (hello endorphins!).
Again, the right tool for the right job.
So while I absolutely love the fact that more people are coming around to the benefits of strength training, we cannot push cardio to the side! (And the same goes for recovery, by the way.)
At Revity3, we give our clients the right amounts of the right forms of exercise, including strength, cardio, balance, mobility, and recovery. (Come try us out HERE!)
It’s not just about dropping those five pounds, it’s about taking a long-term view of your health, both physical and mental. You’ll reap the benefits from a well-rounded exercise program today, tomorrow, and for decades to come!
