Inside! I finally reveal the best way to eat!
I’ve been asked this question over and over over the past 25-plus years in the fitness industry:
What is the best way to eat?
Here it is: There is no one right way to eat!
Sorry for the bait-and-switch, but it’s important for everyone to understand the truth.
Anyone who tells you that there is one right way to eat either has tunnel vision or is trying to sell you something.
We are all basically the same genetically, so there are some essential truths that are shared from person to person.
For example, we all need energy (in the form of fats or carbohydrates), building blocks (which come from protein), and vitamins and minerals.
After that, things start to vary.
We all have individual tastes.
We all have different cultures with different foods.
We all have different microbiomes based on the food we’ve eaten all our lives.
We all have different lifestyles, which should not be underestimated when it comes to how and what we eat.
And although we have similar genetic makeups, they are different enough that how our bodies react to foods is not the same from person to person (even with genetically identical twins!).
Now you’re thinking, “OK, so what do I do now, Mr. Smart Guy?”
The same thing you did when you were a kid and the world was new to you:
Experiment.
What foods make your body feel good? Feel bad?
What foods give you energy? Drain your energy?
What foods do you enjoy eating? Hate eating?
You can eat haphazardly or you can eat with conscious thought, making choices about the food you eat.
Think about it: Eating is one of the most intimate things you can do. You are taking something from the outside world and putting it inside your body!
The lesson?
Be conscious of what you are eating and how you feel after you eat it.
You’ll learn a lot by simply listening to your body!
